A school in Southport is looking to raise £10,000 to kit out a double decker bus for children and the local community to use.
‘The Big Bus Project’ was launched last week by Marshside Primary School, which is known as ‘the little school with the big heart’.
So far, kind well-wishers have raised nearly £1,000 towards the target, with some way still to go.
Marshside Primary School Headteacher, Natasha Sandland, said: “We are aiming to buy and kit out a double decker bus for the children and local community to use, in a variety of ways.
“As a school we are heavily focused on Mental Health and Wellbeing at the moment, and the addition of a meeting space for the local community where we are able to run mental health projects as well as an exciting space for our children would be amazing for the school and local community.
“We are hoping local businesses and local people might be able to help by donating towards our fundraising, and towards kitting the bus out.
“At Marshside Primary we are incredibly lucky to have such fantastic school grounds but we need to create more space for learning opportunities and also to share with our community.
“This is where we would like to purchase a bus which we will convert into a working space for our children and also for use of our families and community.
“The idea is that the bus will be a fabulous space to read and go on learning journeys for our children, but we will be able to loan our bus to our community for project work and a meeting space.
“Our community is incredibly important to us at Marshside Primary and we would like to invite them into our space.
“We want to reach out and work together to develop relationships and ensure that our neighbours are cared for and made to feel valued members of our community.
“The bus will be bespoke to our community’s needs and aims to enhance the lives of our children by building bonds with our community and giving them unique experiences.”
