Sunny Southport has been revealed as the third happiest place to live in the North West!
The news was revealed in the annual Rightmove ‘Happy at Home Index’.
Southport came third in the North West, behind Kendal and Macclesfield, followed by Chester (4th) and Carlisle (fifth).
Our town is enjoying a real renaissance at the moment, with recent good news including the opening of the new Southport Market food, drink and events venue, the new Beales department store, new events at Victoria Park such as Southport Classic and Speed, and exciting new attractions at Southport Pleasureland with a new roller coaster, a new observation wheel and a Viking themed adventure golf facility and eatery on the way.
Rightmove’s annual ‘Happy at Home Index’ asked 21,000 people across 210 towns and villages in Great Britain to rank their feelings about where they live across ten ‘happiness’ factors.
Southport was awarded 37th place in the whole of the UK, with Hexham in Northumberland taking top spot.

A Rightmove spokesperson said: “In what has been an incredibly busy year in the housing market, our latest study shows that moving is making people happier.
“Community is also really key, with feeling a sense of belonging, the friendliness of local residents, and being able to be yourself in an area among the most important measures of happiness.
“We can reveal that Hexham, a picturesque market town in Northumberland, has once again been crowned the happiest place to live in Great Britain in 2021, after also coming first in 2019. “Richmond Upon Thames in London came second, and Harrogate in Yorkshire is in third place.”
