Becconsall, a museum and heritage park, is currently under development on a 20-acre Heritage Site in Hesketh Bank, West Lancashire.

When completed, it will serve as a year-round attraction that showcases the everyday life in Lancashire through the ages, with a focus on industrial, social, and craft heritage.

Becconsall will engage with a diverse range of audiences through collections, demonstrations, re-enactments, themed events, and workshops, fostering a sense of community engagement and pride in the region’s rich history, from Viking settlements to the Industrial Revolution and beyond.

To involve the local community, the Becconsall Project collaborated with seven schools and two libraries to launch a mascot competition for children.

The competition encouraged children to design a mascot for the upcoming Living Museum and Heritage Park, and the winning design will be used in Becconsall’s branding and publications.

The winner, Peggy Cubbin, aged six and a half, from Hesketh Bank, designed Hestre the Viking Horse, which was inspired by the meaning of Hesketh and the local history of Hesketh Bank.
