Southport murderer to be sentenced this Thursday as people urged to allow space in courtroom

The murderer who killed three young girls in Southport and wounded several other children and adults will be sentenced this Friday (23rd January) at Liverpool Crown Court. 

Axel Rudakubana, aged 18, from Banks in Lancashire pleaded guilty 

to all 16 counts he was charged with on Monday (20th January 2025) .

The hearing is due to start at 11am with people urged to not attend the courtroom to allow sufficient room for family members and survivors of the atrocity. 

Rudakubana pleaded guilty to three charges of murder; 10 charges of attempted murder and one charge of possession of a knife – all relating to the incident at a Taylor Swift themed dance and yoga class at The Hart Space on Hart Street, Southport on 29th July 2024.

He was additionally charged on 29th October with production of a biological toxin, namely ricin, contrary to Section 1 of the Biological Weapons Act 1974; and possessing information, namely a pdf file entitled “Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al-Qaeda Training Manual” of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Following his guilty plea, Rudakubana was remanded in custody until his sentencing.
