Plans have been announced to create The Southport Memory Quilt, telling the story of our town in a unique and exciting way.
The initiative is being led by The Hearth, with support from Sefton CVS and Southport Together.
The quilt will be created through seeking memories from Southport’s senior citizens with their stories lovingly stitched into quilted squares.
The squares will then be joined to create a unique quilt which will be put on display in spaces across the town.
The Hearth is now looking for volunteer quilters and also for community groups with older members who would be willing to share their stories.
The Hearth directors Rebecca Armstrong and Nadia Speers-Robinson said:
“We are overjoyed to announce that The Hearth Network has received funding from the Southport Together Fund, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to Sefton CVS for making this possible. This support is going to unlock something we feel is truly extraordinary for our community.
“The Southport Memory Quilt project will bring together the treasured memories of Southport’s older residents, each story lovingly stitched into a quilted square.
“When joined, these squares will form one magnificent quilt – a tapestry of shared experiences – that will travel across community spaces in our town, telling the story of Southport in an incredible, tangible way.
“Here’s where you come in.
“We are looking for volunteer quilters and also for community groups with older members who would be willing to share their stories. We are especially keen to hear about:
- Earliest childhood memories of Southport
- Experiences of moving here later in life, especially from far away places
- Experiences of moving back here after living away
- Key events, places, and eras that shaped our town
“If you’d like to be part of this incredible journey – whether by stitching, sharing, or simply cheering us on – please get in touch.
“Watch this space for updates as we begin to weave Southport’s story together, one memory at a time.
“Let’s create something unforgettable, together.”
The Hearth CIC is a community organisation based in Sefton that hosted its first big event, Earth Day, at Wayfarers Arcade in April.
This free, family-friendly event celebrated sustainability and empowered attendees with practical ways to save money on energy bills while making a positive impact on the planet.
Plans are already underway to create an even bigger Earth Day event for 2026.
They have also founded the Climate And Sustainability Action (CASA) business network to support local businesses to learn more about sustainability.
