An artist's impression of how the new Southport Market will look

Five delicious food stalls can today be revealed for the new-look Southport Market.

Visitors will be spoiled for choice with outlets serving: Mexican street food, Canadian specialities, Portugese tarts and baked goods, crepes waffles and desserts, and home-made pies and mash!

They will join family-run Blackhurst Butchers, which has been at the heart of Southport Market for nearly half a century, and traditional wood-fired pizza experts 600 Degrees. More traders are due to be revealed soon.

Sefton Council is leading the £1.4m redevelopment of Southport Market into an exciting new food, drink and events hub. Work is due to be completed this summer.

The scheme, a key enabler in Sefton Council’s Covid-19 recovery plan for Southport, will see 10 new locally based food units and a feature bar installed. This will be supported by a flexible events area able to host high-quality markets along with other events.

Southport Market will also include a Changing Places space which is a fully accessible toilet and changing area. Artisan markets will take place inside and outside of the market on the first Sunday of every month, from Sunday 6th June 2021 onwards.

The new traders will include:

The new-look Southport Market is on course to open its doors this summer, thanks to the hard work of Sefton Council and its partners. They include builders Medlock and interior designers DV8 Design.

Work is taking place behind the hoardings on King Street and Market Street applying the finer details to the market’s aesthetic, combining key elements of Southport’s heritage with a modern and sleek events space.

Sefton Council has secured £900,000 funding through Southport Town Deal and £500,000 from The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to make the scheme possible.

Once complete it is hoped the revitalised market will act as an enabler for Southport. The scheme forms early plans of an ambitious regeneration programme for the town following the success of the £37.5 Southport Town Deal bid in March.
