Life-saving heroes from Southport Lifeboat have been honoured with King’s Coronation Medals.
The presentation was made by Lawrence Ramsay from HM Coastguard, at a special visit to Southport Lifeboat Station.
The King’s Coronation Medals for emergency services are commemorative medals issued to recognise the contributions of emergency workers during significant royal events. They were most recently presented for the Coronation of King Charles III.
Southport Lifeboat Coxswain and Trustee Nick porter said: “While not all of our crew were eligible to receive the medals, we would like to recognise the contribution of each and every one of our volunteers for their ongoing commitment in ensuring that Southport has a professional sea and shore-based lifesaving service.”
It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.
Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI, which abandoned Southport many years ago.
There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining Lifeboat Lotto or online donations.
