Members of the CrossFitASG Gym in Southport are raising money for Southport Foodbank

Determined members from a gym in Southport are raising money for their local Foodbank by travelling an epic 3,000 miles on their hands and feet!

The fundraisers from the CrossFitASG Gym on Russell Road in High Park had originally aimed to cover 500 miles in aid of Southport Foodbank.

They completed that challenge after five days, so doubled it to 1,000 miles. But after beating that target in a week and two days, they have now set a target of 3,000 miles!

They have raised nearly £400 and are appealing for local people to support their fundraiser.

CrossFitASG Gym member Katie Rodd said: “My CrossFit box (CrossFitASG) are fundraising for Southport Foodbank by completing 500 miles on hand and feet only.

“Members including all the classes from kids up to our living legend classes will be completing these miles in numerous ways including handstand walking, fancy dress, carrying odd objects etc!”

The CrossFit ASG ‘I’m gonna be’ lockdown challenge will raise vital funds for the Compassion Acts charity, which operates Southport Foodbank, Southport Food Pantry, The Next Steps Cafe, a Debt Advice Line and other causes which help local people in need of help, especially vital during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Katie said: “As a community, all of our members from; Kids, Teens and all the way up to our Living Legends will be attempting to run or walk hundreds of miles in the 28 days of lockdown! “And if we smash our target, then in the great words of The Proclaimers, then we’ll ‘walk 500 more’!

“In March, April and May of 2020 due to Covid-19 and lockdown, the Compassion Acts usage went up to 80%, so it’s incredibly important that we support them in case another surge in usage happens during this second lockdown.

“Members will be completing their miles in a number of ways, including an in house competition for ‘craziest / most creative miles’!

“If you have any suggestions or challenges for us, get in touch!

“We really appreciate any donation you can spare, and hope we can make a difference to our local community!”
