A group of fundraisers have come together in Southport to help support Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
The dedicated volunteers have committed to giving up their time to spread awareness of the Charity and raise funds to help local people with cancer.
Their first event will be at The Windmill pub in the town, where they are hosting a special quiz night on Sunday 29th March.
The evening will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity with questions from the last three decades and a special picture round featuring famous faces who support its work.
Jenny Peacock, who lives in Southport, has been appointed Chair of the group and together with the rest of the members, she can’t wait to start helping local people with cancer.
Jenny, who was treated for breast cancer at Clatterbridge, said:
“My cancer journey changed my life in ways I never expected.
“Through the fear, treatment and recovery I experienced not only the challenges of cancer but also the incredible support, kindness and strength that carried me through.
“Now I feel a deep desire to give back, to help support others that will battle after me. That’s why I joined the new Clatterbridge Cancer Charity team for Southport.
“Myself, with Kerynne, Mo, Gaynor, Peter and Ken want to turn our experiences into something positive, this is our way of honouring the journey and people that helped us along the way.”
The group are asking for more volunteers to join their effort. People can be involved as much or as little as they like. They are also appealing for raffle prizes for their quiz night.
They are planning too for the Southport Flower Show where Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is the chosen charity for the Ladies Day lunch.
Jenny added: “If anyone has raffle prizes for either event please let us know. We are appealing to local businesses to get involved and help us raise as much as possible for this wonderful Charity.”
Ellie Gilbert, Community Fundraiser for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said:
“We are so excited about the launch of our Southport fundraising team.
“They are an amazing and very friendly group of people who are determined to do all they can to help the one in two people with cancer in our region.
“We would love more people to get involved if they can.”
Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre helping fund projects at its hospitals in Liverpool, Wirral and Aintree and at a network of chemotherapy clinics across the region. The Charity funds research into new treatments, cutting edge equipment, the arts in health programme and so many more initiatives to enhance the lives of patients and their families.
