Southport FC says its kit supplier has gone into liquidation, leaving the club an estimated £100,000 out of pocket and fans unable to get hold of replica kits this Christmas.
A statement by the club says: “Southport FC wishes to address the concerns raised by our loyal supporters regarding the ongoing lack of availability of replica merchandise.
“We fully understand and share your frustrations on this matter, as it is deeply disappointing for the club’s kit provider to consistently fail to meet the demand for merchandise from our dedicated fanbase.
“Unfortunately, the situation has been caused by a breach of contract by our kit supplier which has severely impacted our supply chain.
“The club has taken the matter seriously and initiated legal proceedings against our present kit supplier for this breach which we anticipate has cost the club upwards of £100,000 in lost earnings and unfulfilled contractual commitments.
“Regrettably, our kit supplier has since entered liquidation, further complicating the resolution of this issue.
“We are committed to ensuring this situation does not arise again. As such, the club is actively conducting a thorough procurement process to identify a reliable and high-quality kit provider for the 2025/26 season. This decision will cover all our teams, including the men’s, women’s, academy, and community teams, and will prioritise ensuring timely delivery and availability of merchandise.
“We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging period. “Southport FC remains dedicated to providing our supporters with the quality and service you deserve, and we will keep you updated as we progress.”
The kit manufacturer has been approached for comment.
