Southport FC 0 Tamworth 0

Report By Matthew Hurst

The spoils were shared at The Big Help Stadium against a top of the league Tamworth side that played the majority of the second half with 10 men.

After a slow start to proceedings, Southport FC grew into the game and had the better of the chances, a few of which came from Hmami through the middle or as a result of combinations down the wing, linking up with Carver up top.

The first half ended level and saw Southport without their manager after being dismissed from his technical area for delaying play. The second half started similarly to how the first ended with cards being shown and after an off the ball altercation three players ended up in the book one of which being the visitors defender Willets, who saw red after previously being booked in the first half.

Southport then dominated the play and had a string on attacks looking to break down the resolute Tanworth defence. Chances by Carver and Walton late on gave the home fans hope of a late winner but the game ended goalless giving Southport a good point despite arguably deserving more.

Southport are next at home for a league game against Gloucester on the 14th of October. A free weekend next week before the long trip south to Bishop’s Stortford on October 7th.
