Banbury United 0 Southport 1

Southport FC continue to climb the National league North table, after their second consecutive victory saw them defeat Banbury United away from home.

It was another massive three points at Banbury on Saturday afternoon as the Sandgrounders won 1-0 in a vital game at the wrong end of the table. The win pushes us up to 17th place.

It was the third clean sheet in a row for Chris Renshaw who was once again in outstanding form in goal when called upon.

Southport dominated the first half but were unable to find the goal that the dominance deserved.

Banbury started the second period strongly and were in the ascendancy when a long ball forward found firstly the head of Richie Bennett who nodded on to Will Russ and with the Banbury back line appealing in vain for an offside Marcus Carver ran through and slotted the ball underneath the advancing ‘keeper.

Renshaw had to be alert to make a superb save from a home corner but Southport were able to see the game out relatively comfortably in the closing stages.
