The Southport FC Charity match has raised £40,000 for local families impacted by the Southport tragedy.
The amount was raised during Saturday’s game at Haig Avenue, which saw a stellar cast of celebrity players compete in sides managed by Everton FC legend Ian Snodin and Liverpool FC legend John Aldridge.
Players included: Still Ryan, James Nelson-Joyce, Toni Duggan, Liam Smith, Callum Skillen, Ryan Hall, Baz Todd, Neil Danns, Rocky Fielding, Will Craggs, Mark Duffy, Philip McGuinness, Sam Tay and more.
The match, sponsored by Hope’s Help, was hosted by local radio presenters Claire Simmo and Baz Todd with live music and entertainment.
Southport business G Models & Casting Agency provided several characters to entertain families, including a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike, Wookies, and world champion football freestyler Steve Gray.
The game was attended by several families whose children had been at the Southport attack two years ago.
A Southport FC spokesperson said: “Southport, together we have raised £40,000 for the families affected by the tragic events of 2024.
“This was only possible because of the incredible support from our community, volunteers, players, staff, sponsors and everyone who donated or attended.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
“See you all in 2027.”
Volunteers from Southport Hesketh Round Table were once again at the ground throughout the day, selling raffle tickets with a variety of top prizes to be won, donated by various local companies.
