‘Port are currently in 21st place in the National League North table, in the relegation zone on goal difference but with two games in hand on King’s Lynn Town just above them.

A Southport FC spokesperson said:

“We can confirm the signing of Danny Lloyd who rejoins the club after an absence of 12 years. The move is subject to international clearance with Danny recently being on the books of Livingston.

“Danny, a forward, was involved in our PASE set up back in 2008 and made 1 sub league appearance in the 2009-10 season as well as having 2 cup starts and he also had 4 sub starts in 2010-11.”

Danny went on to play for Colwyn Bay, Lincoln City, Tamworth, AFC Fylde, Stockport, Peterborough United. Salford City, Tranmere, Gillingham, Rochdale and Livingston.

Southport FC Manager Jim Bentley said:

“Danny is a player I know well and he is a big signing for the club. He had interest elsewhere after leaving Livingston in Scotland recently and I’m pleased he’s decided to return to where it all began for him.

“He is a local lad living in the area, has great experience and will add something different to our squad. He is also very adaptable covering quite a few positions which is ideal and I’m sure he will create and score goals.

“I have tried to sign him a few times over the years and did get to work with him last season at Rochdale where he was excellent.

“He is very professional, has a great attitude towards the game and really invests in himself and his fitness. I’m really pleased to have him on board this season and next and sure he will be a success for the club.”

Ben Hockenhull

Southport FC have also today completed the loan signing of Ben Hockenhull, a central defender from Tranmere Rovers and Ben will be eligible to play this Saturday.

Ben is a young, talented central defender, who began his career when he signed for the Manchester United academy at the tender age of six.

Born on September 3rd, 2001, his dedication and skill led him to secure a scholarship in 2018 before moving away from Carrington two years later to pursue new challenges.

Subsequently, Hockenhull joined Brentford’s B team, signing a two-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.  Despite facing injuries during the 2020/21 campaign, he persevered and progressed within the club, where his performances earned him the opportunity to train with the senior squad and even captain the B team.

In May 2022, Tranmere welcomed Hockenhull, signing him on a two-year contract. He won Man of the Match on his debut against Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy, before embarking on a successful loan spell with Warrington Rylands. He has since spent short loan spells with Chorley and Spennymoor Town in the National League North, and scored his first senior goal with the latter.

Hockenhull’s defensive prowess and potential make him an exciting Rovers prospect and one who will be looking to break into the first team.
