A Southport cricketer will run through every postcode in the ‘L’ region of the North West to raise vital funds for Ainsdale Cricket Club.
Alex Rigby, who followed in his Dad’s footsteps in playing for Ainsdale, will take on his gruelling ‘Postcode Run’ on Saturday, 4th February 2023.
All the funds raised will go towards the club’s new £45,000 practice facility.
Alex has raised over £1,000 already, and is asking people to donate to his appeal.
Alex, nicknamed the ‘Bootle Geldof’, will run 52 miles through all 40 postcodes in the ‘L’ regions of Ormskirk, Bootle and Liverpool.
He will be joined on parts of the route by other members of Liverpool Running Club, where he has been a member for more than seven years.
Alex said: “I have been thinking for a while what is a crazy challenge to do?
“So I asked my good running friend Matt Wanderer and he said run all the postcodes in Liverpool, so I am going to attempt to touch base with every postcode in ‘L’ region on February 4th 2023. Also it’s in the middle of Winter just to make it that bit more challenging it will be darker and colder by then too!
“By doing this I am hoping to raise money for my cricket club and help towards paying for our new netting facilities.
“We have now passed the £1,000 marker which is absolutely amazing, thanks for all your great support!
“I have previously run the route in four quarters and made it slightly quicker, so hopefully on the day the weather is kind and it’s a smooth and steady run.”
As well as support from friends and family, a vest has been made specially for the event and he has sponsorship from a local pressure washing company.
Alex looks to be firmly on track to raise about £1,500 through his postcode ultra.
Work at Ainsdale Cricket Club should be able to start in mid April when the ground firms up.
It is hoped that the facility can be ready to use in time for the late May bank holiday.
