Volunteers at Southport Comedy Festival with festival directors Brendan Riley and Val Brady

The 2023 Southport Comedy Festival is the fastest selling event yet, with several shows nearly sold out.

Limited seats are now left for gigs including Jason Byrne, Jimeoin, Gary Delaney and Clinton Baptiste with lots of other shows selling fast.

People are being urged to book the acts they want to see before tickets are gone.

The Southport Comedy Festival in association with Halliwell Jones BMW is back for its 12th year this autumn, with the full line-up now revealed.

From 29th September to 15th October 2023 stars of the comedy world will descend on the seaside town of Southport for 17 fun filled days of laughter.

The festival will be staged for a third year in a giant luxury heated and seated marquee courtesy of Elite Marquees in Victoria Park, home of the world-renowned Southport Flower Show.

Alongside returning favourites Jason Byrne, Paul Sinha, Rich Hall, Gary Delaney, Nina Gilligan and Jimeoin this star-studded festival welcomes TV comedians Tom Davis, Seann Walsh, Clinton Baptiste, Simon Brodkin, Jen Brister, Mark Steel, Emmanuel Sonubi and Mark Nelson.

The festival is also supporting the stars of tomorrow with the return of the Southport New Comedian of the Year Competition.

Southport Comedy Festival Director Val Brady said: “This is the biggest selling Southport Comedy Festival we have had!

“We have got lots of big names appearing this year who are proving very popular, but it is also a god chance for audiences to take a chance to see comedians they may not have heard of  before who haven’t performed here in Southport.

“The festival has really built up over the years with the names and the quality of acts we are attracting.

“With audiences too, more and more people know what Southport Comedy Festival is now and what it offers. It is always lovely to see so many regular faces coming back year after year, some have even become friends!

“We are more established at Victoria Park too.

“When we first moved the event to the park and announced we were holding the shows inside a big marquee, lots of people didn’t realise what it was and how it all worked.

“Now they’ve been and it’s our third year here they are a lot more confident now!

“All the shows are held inside a large and very stylish marquee, expertly provided by Elite Marquees. It is heated, it is carpeted, it has lots of seating, it has a large bar, we have a food outlet, there are toilets, lighting, everything you need for a great night out.

“Elite Marquees owner Mark Dilley and his team do a great job every year of creating a really special festival venue for us.

“It makes for a really intimate comedy festival venue which is fantastic.

“It’s a great chance to see live comedy up close and personal in a very different environment.

“We are also very grateful to Alan Adams and his team at Victoria Park for allowing us to host our festival in such a beautiful setting.

“People are a lot more confident about events now after the Covid pandemic. In the past couple of years, people were more anxious and were leaving booking tickets for events until the last minute, but they feel more sure now.

“Our advance ticket sales this year are up significantly on previous years.

“It means that a few of our shows are now getting close to full capacity already.

“So if there are particular shows you have your eye on, we’d invite people to book your tickets now so you don’t miss out.

“We would like to thank all the businesses who keep Southport Smiling year after year, without them we couldn’t run the festival so check out their logos on the festival website.”
