The Bottle Room on Lord Street in Southport

The owner of two busy bars in Southport is looking forward to seeing them reopen on Saturday (July 4) – as he revealed his plans to open a third venture in Hesketh Bank!

Steven Lannagan already owns The Bottle Room and The Copper & Ivy on Lord Street, both of which are ready to welcome back customers on ‘Super Saturday’.

While he gets those two ready, and safe, for customers, he has also been busy working on transforming the former Brentleys Hair & Beauty Station Road in the centre of Hesketh Bank.

Astonishingly, Hesketh Bank has been without a pub since The Becconsall closed its doors in 2009, despite a fierce campaign to keep it open by Una McBride and her mother, former landlady ‘Mrs Mac’ McBride.

Steven said: “I am putting the feelers out as to what people would like to see in their new local bar.

“We are hoping to provide a welcoming community feel to the bar and work with local businesses.

“I don’t want it to be a spit and sawdust kind of pub. I’d like it to be a classy place where people can get dressed up and come to. Local residents who have given me their views so far say they would love to see somewhere where they can come and enjoy a glass of wine, or a cocktail. I’d love to create something that local people want to come in and enjoy.

“I have not fixed on a name yet, I am still thinking on that one. I hope to be open and running in the next two or three months.”

In the meantime Steven is ready to welcome customers back to The Bottle Room from midday until late this Saturday, after lots of work to get the place ready.

He said: “We will be open this Saturday to wet your appetite with Southport’s largest range of world beers!

“Following the guidelines we have removed some furniture and put hand sanitizer stations out to provide a safe environment for everyone.

“To keep customers safe we have implemented the following :

* No standing at the bar after ordering drinks.

* When possible we will do all we can to provide table service.

* Tables and chairs have been distanced 1m apart so we ask that you do not move furniture.

*The Bottle Room is narrow, so we ask you to give way to people moving around the building where possible.

*We will have a track and trace system where-by customers must provide their name & number in order to be served (This is mandatory by the Government)

“We look forward to seeing you all.”

The nearby Copper & Ivy, which is decorated by a real birch tree along its ceiling, will reopen from 10am this Saturday.

Steven said: “We are abiding to all the government guidelines in order for us to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for you

“We recommend booking a table via our Facebook or Instagram page as we are already getting lovely booking messages.

“We will be operating a reduced menu and can’t wait to welcome you all back.”
