The return of Southport Air Show has been hailed a soaring success with fascinating displays, awesome aerial stunts and much more.
Thousands of aviation enthusiasts and families visited the resort over Saturday and Sunday (July 9th and 10th) with displays from the Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon, a P-52 Mustang, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and much more.
Another highlight was the first appearance of a Spitfire which flew from RAF Woodvale near Southport during World War II.
The Supermarine Spitfire BM597 saw wartime service with both 315 & 317 Polish Squadrons operating from RAF Woodvale.

The event also hosted the first UK appearance by the world famous South Korean Air Force in more than ten years.
The Asian nation’s Black Eagles aerobatic flight team jetted in with their eight KAI T-50B jets, specially-painted in their trademark black, white, and yellow for a series of jaw dropping and awe-inspiring aerial manoeuvres.
The busy weekend meant that business in the town centre was booming, with restaurant, shop and bar owners enjoying heavy footfall as part of the Southport Air Show.

Visitors were full of praise for this year’s event.
Speaking on the Southport Air Show Facebook page, Laura Cliffe said: “Absolutely LOVED the air show! Amazing displays, it was so good to be back!”
Donna Croll said: “We had the best day today, very well organised. Can’t wait to come back, kids have had a fantastic day.”
Liz Gorman said: “What an incredible day… Thank you to everyone who made it possible, both on the ground and in the air… See you next year!.”

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member Regeneration and Skills, said: “We are delighted that the return of the Southport Air Show was an amazing experience for everyone who attended.
“The warm weather over both days put an extra shine on the show as huge crowds were wowed with some fantastic displays, including the Republic of Korea’s Black Eagles team.
“On Sunday another amazing line up was capped off by the ever wonderful Red Arrows, who delivered a jaw dropping display of aerial amazement.

“Thousands of visitors attended the resort over the two days which will have had a real positive impact on local businesses in and around the town.
“We remain wholly committed to putting on fabulous events like this for Southport and Sefton.

“We are already looking forward to next year’s show and I would encourage everyone to get their tickets for the upcoming British Musical Fireworks Championship at Victoria Park from September 23rd to September 25th.”
