Slimming World groups in Southport have been allowed to continue running under the new Tier 3 restrictions introduced across Southport and the Liverpool City Region this week.
The groups have been recognised by the Government for their value in improving public health and helping people reach and then maintain a healthy weight, which is vital in the battle against Covid-19.
Slimming World is currently working in partnership with Public Health England to seize the opportunity for a national reset moment, kickstarting a commitment to a healthier way of life following the disruption to people’s lives since the Coronavirus outbreak.
The NHS Better Health campaign is designed to support people to make healthy changes.
People are invited to get support to discover healthy habits for lifelong weight-loss by getting free Slimming World membership, plus six weeks for the price of five, when they buy a six-week group membership before 22nd November 2020, paying £24.75 on week one.
There are a number of Slimming World groups taking place in the Southport area, which can carry on operating classes each week after this week’s Government Tier 3 announcement which saw the closure of many businesses and organisations including pubs, bars, betting shops and casinos.
Dee Wright, who runs Slimming World with Dee groups at St Simon’s and St Jude’s Church on Old Park Lane in High Park in Southport, said: “We are still continuing thankfully!
“All our groups at St Simon’s and St Jude’s Church are running as normal.
“We are a Covid secure business with:
– booked/limited smaller session sizes
– everyone is required to wear a mask (unless medically exempt)
– social distanced pay and weigh
– social distanced chairs (1 metre plus)
– hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes
– cleaning between sessions
– separate new member sessions
– contactless payments and processes
“And as always there is still lots of help, support, learning and laughter – and we need it more now than ever before!
“If you are a current member please book on using the Picktime link that you have been given and if you are a new or returning member please contact me to book your place!”
Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, a number of new people have signed up for new Slimming World classes.
Dee Wright said: “Slimming World is currently running an offer linked to Better Health England’s campaign and this may help people get started, while saving them money.
“This has been a very difficult year for us all
“Since we reopened our real life groups again in August we have welcomed many people who have never been to a Slimming World group before however the last few months has meant they have gained unwanted pounds and they’ve taken a step into our groups.
“We have been excited to show them that they can lose weight eating delicious food and that Slimming World’s food optimising plan is not a diet, it’s sustainable for life.
“Our existing members who have returned tell us how great it feels to be back in group.
“They are loving losing weight again supported by other people who understand too. Being back together helps us to get back on track!
“Members tell us that isolation, loneliness, stress, grief, emotion, worry, anxiety and boredom have had a big impact on their eating habits!
“At Slimming World we offer practical advice and lots of support in a non judgemental environment. We understand and we care for our members.
“With 10 weeks to Christmas there is still time to drop a couple of dress or trouser sizes and leave 2020 behind slimmer and healthier!”
