This Sunday (27th April 2025) promises to be a day to remember, as six incredible individuals lace up their running shoes and take on the world-famous London Marathon, all in aid of Queenscourt Hospice.

Each of these passionate fundraisers has a powerful reason for tackling the gruelling 26.2-mile route through the heart of the capital. From personal loss to professional dedication, their stories are as moving as the cause they support.

Dr Jane Hough, who works at Queenscourt Hospice, has seen first-hand the vital work the hospice does for local people facing life-limiting illnesses. Jane is not only stepping up as a medical professional but also as a determined marathon runner, showing her heartfelt commitment to the charity she helps represent.

Ian Skellern is running in memory of his beloved wife, Diane. Queenscourt provided care and support to Diane during her illness, and Ian’s marathon mission is a tribute to her life and a thank you to those who cared for her when it mattered most.

Jemma Hornby is also running in memory of a loved one – her mum, Jeanette. Inspired by the compassion and dignity shown by Queenscourt, Jemma is using this incredible platform to honour her mum’s memory and raise crucial funds to help other families.

Adam Cheang, a well-known face in Southport’s fitness community, owns Hybrid Gym and is a proud, long-time supporter of Queenscourt. With his professional background and passion for health and well-being, Adam is ready to put his training to the test, in memory of his step-mum, Kathleen.

Julie Tandy, General Manager at The Prince of Wales Hotel, is leading by example as she and her team take on a series of fundraising challenges for Queenscourt throughout the year. The London Marathon is Julie’s biggest challenge yet, and she’s tackling it with the same determination and spirit that defines her leadership.

Last but not least, Rob Kirby is running in memory of a close friend, Colin. After securing a coveted ballot place in the marathon, Rob chose to dedicate his run to Queenscourt, ensuring his friend’s memory lives on through every mile and every donation.

These six runners are not just participating in one of the world’s most iconic races – they’re making a difference with every step. Their collective efforts will help Queenscourt Hospice continue its mission to provide compassionate care to patients and support to their families across West Lancashire, Southport, and Formby.
