A virtual art exhibition in Southport has been extended by a further month.
The Sefton Open usually draws thousands of visitors to an exhibition across several rooms at The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport this year.
This year’s show was sadly hit by the Coronavirus outbreak – so curators at The Atkinson worked hard to give people at home during lockdown the chance to see the stunning exhibition from the comfort of their own homes.
See It Here: The Sefton Open 2020 – Digital Exhibition opened on 18 April and was due to finish this Saturday ( 6 June 2020).
But the good news for art lovers is that it has now been extended until 4 July 2020.
The Sefton Open is an annual exhibition celebrating the creativity and artistic talent across the borough of Sefton.

This is the first time that The Atkinson has showcased the Sefton Open in a digital exhibition. The call for artists was open to all practitioners who live, work or were educated in Sefton. Artists were invited to submit one digital photograph of their artwork, with all practices welcomed, including ceramics, sculpture, painting, textiles and photography
Principal Manager, Museum, Gallery & Operations Stephen Whittle said: “It’s great to see that people across Sefton are still creating such wonderful and thought-provoking artworks.

“Even though our Borough of Culture celebrations have been curtailed for now, the fantastic response we have had from people right across the borough demonstrates how important cultural activity still is in keeping us connected.”
The exhibition is supported by The Atkinson’s long-standing partner, Southport Palette Club, as well as many other local groups, each showcasing their skill and artistry.
Exhibitions and Learning Officer Jemma Tynan said: “It is very exciting to launch the Sefton Open Exhibition online and connect our community and the wider world with the wonderful talent of Sefton artists during this time.”
Selected artworks are available to purchase through The Atkinson and the Own Art Scheme.
The Sefton Young Artist of the Year competition has also been extended until July 4.

The Atkinson in partnership with The Arts Society Southport invited Young Artists aged 11-18 living in the
Sefton Borough to submit one photograph of an original artwork to the Sefton Young Artist of the Year
competition, exhibited on The Atkinson’s website.
