There will be a chance to raise a glass to local brewing excellence at the Salt and Tar Fringe Festival with a unique Beer School & Tasting Event.

Led by internationally acclaimed beer writer and judge Melissa Cole, alongside the award-winning team from Neptune Brewery, the two Beer School sessions will take place on Sunday 26th May 2025.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a guided tasting of six of Neptune Brewery’s finest brews. Each will be served as a half pint as guests are taken on a relaxed and informative journey through styles, flavours and brewing techniques.

The sessions will be led by beer writer and international judge Melissa Cole, alongside Neptune’s co-owner and Head of Sales and Events Julie O’Grady. Melissa and Julie will be sharing expert insights into the brewing process and how best to pair beer with food.

Bootle based Neptune Brewery has become a respected name in the UK’s independent beer scene. Originally founded in Maghull in 2015, the brewery moved to its current larger site in Bootle in 2022 to meet growing demand. Since then, it has become a local hub for events, live music and community celebrations, helping put Bootle firmly on the craft beer map.

Julie O’Grady, Owner and Head of Sales and Events at Neptune Brewery said:

“We are thrilled to be working alongside Salt and Tar. At Neptune we share the same ethos around supporting our local communities and I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing weekend.

“I look forward to meeting festival goers at our tasting event, which will be really fun and engaging, learning more about beer and brewing.

“Salt and Tar have created an incredible space that celebrates local talent while welcoming local people and visitors from beyond the area. It’s a true honor to be part of a weekend that puts community, creativity, and collaboration front and center.”

Melissa Cole, Award-winning beer and food writer said:

“Brilliant beer from a local brewery is something to cherish and helping Neptune raise a glass to its 10th anniversary at a brilliant community venue such as Salt and Tar is a privilege; it’s going to be a huge amount of fun and I hope to see lots of happy faces on the day.”
