Sainsbury’s is opening its huge new superstore in Southport next week.

The store at Meols Cop Retail park will open its doors at 9am on next Wednesday 28th February 2024.

The 44,710 sq. ft supermarket is creating around 150 new jobs for people in Southport.

Sainsbury’s says it is passionate about providing ‘good food for all of us’ and the outlet will feature an extensive selection of fresh food, fruit and veg, food-to-go, cupboard staples and freshly baked goods.

It will also feature a selection of non-food, including Sainsbury’s Habitat and Tu clothing ranges, as well as a new Argos store that will enable customers to shop from thousands of products in technology, toys, gaming and electricals while picking up their groceries.

The store will also feature a brand-new Smart Charge Hub with 8 ultra-rapid EV charging bays, a Costa Coffee and a Changing Places Toilet to help ensure the store is accessible for all customers.

Sainsbury’s had previously proposed the creation of a new petrol filling station but replaced it with EV charging bays instead.

Ash Metcalfe, Sainsbury’s Southport Meols Cop Store Manager, said:

“We’re very excited to be able to welcome customers to our brand-new supermarket for the first time from next Wednesday. We’re currently putting the finishing touches on the state-of-the art store and getting everything ready to help more customers in Southport discover the joy of food with Sainsbury’s. I can’t wait to see everyone next week and hear what they think.”

Sainsbury’s believes that good food should be for all, but the reality for many communities across the UK is they need support more now than ever with access to food. Sainsbury’s Southport Meols Cop will play an active part in combating food poverty by contributing positively to the retailer’s Nourish the Nation programme, in which it works with Comic Relief to ensure communities have improved access to balanced, nutritional and sustainable food sources.

The store has already established a food donation partnership with the food bank Shoreline Church.
