A runner from Formby who has amassed a haul of medals in national and international events has been crowned 2024 Sefton Sportsperson Of The Year, sponsored by Solarcrown Commercial.
Lisa Gawthorne was presented with her awarded by champion boxer Martin Murray at the 2024 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards at The Grand in Southport.
Lisa then presented the three Young Sefton Sportsperson winners Louis Cheung-Turner, Joshua Morris and Jack Carney with their trophies.
Lisa Gawthorne is an amazing athlete. In the last 12 months she has performed exceptionally as a local athlete from Formby and has netted the following achievements around the world and in the local region:
European age group duathlon champion (Italy) – gold medal for GB
World age group duathlon champion (Spain) – gold medal for GB
Bronze medalist in the European 5000m (Italy)
Bronze medalist in the European 10K (Italy)
British Masters championships – silver medalist in 3000m
British Masters Championships – silver medalist in 800m
British Masters Championships- Gold medalist in 1500m
Mersey Tunnel 10K – female winner
Lytham 5 mile – female winner
Halewood 4 mile – female winner
Halewood 5K – female winner x 3 times
Manchester mile – female winner
Lisa runs and trains around Formby woods, Ainsdale and Southport areas and is so committed to her sport, proving that you can achieve so much when you really put the effort in and she’s managed all this whilst managing a successful business, Bravura Foods, specialists in vegan and vegetarian brand distribution, sales and marketing.
The 2024 Pride Of Sefton Awards saw 13 categories on the night at The Grand in Southport, with incredible stories behind all the finalists.
There were over 1,300 nominations for community figures from Southport, Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull and across Sefton.
The Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards were organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport in association with media partners In Demand Radio.
The night was hosted by In Demand Radio presenter Claire Simmo, with entertainment from Whitney Houston tribute performer Michelle Lawson, soul singer Dave Broe and DJ Baz Todd.
As Sefton celebrates its 50th birthday, VIP guests attending the awards included Sefton Council Leader Cllr Marion Atkinson; Mayor of Sefton Cllr June Burns; and council Chief Executive Phil Porter.
Also enjoying the evening were boxing world title challenger Martin Murray and Liverpool FC legend Gary Gillespie.

Fundraising took place on the night with proceeds going to ICU Steps, the intensive care patient support charity.
