We enjoyed a superb first visit to Kalash Divine Indian on Lord Street in Southport.

We were kindly invited to discover what is on offer by owners Ranjeet and Alvino.

It’s a celebration of the very best of dishes from across India with a sizeable menu which has recently been updated with more new dishes.

They take huge pride in cooking inventive dishes freshly with a rich combination of flavours, textures and spices.

The flavours have so much depth.

Kalash has been recommended by so many people to it was superb to be able to visit.

We started with one of the new dishes, Dahi Sev Puri, or yoghurt bombs. This popular Indian Street food has a crunch with tangy tamarind and smooth creamy yoghurt. They’re little taste explosions – they’d be perfect as a snack with a cold beer if you’re walking past or as a starter.

If you love seafood, then Samundri Ratan has a real wow factor; a scallop shell topped with scallops, mussels and squid, in mustard, garlic and cumin spiced Goan tomato masala.

Chicken 65 is their most popular starter with diners, and it’s easy to see why with tender chicken marinated in garlic, vinegar, chili, yoghurt and chilli leaves.

Malabari Konju Seafood Stew was swimming with flavour; prawns, mussels, scallops, and squid in coconut milk and coriander. It has layers of flavours with a complexity that’s very impressive.

Murg Tawa Palak was delicious home style chicken tikka in garlic flavoured masala flipped with spinach, ginger and red chillies. Very moreish.

They went very well with bottles of Indian Cobra, one of the world’s best beers.

At the end we shared a tasty palate cleansing dessert, of carrot with coconut and cardamom topped with ice cream.

I have never come across any of these dishes before; they were real discoveries.
