The community will come together to commemorate the annual Remembrance Sunday event in Southport this Sunday (9th November 2025) which marks the 80th anniversary since the end of World War Two. 

There are several places throughout town where you can buy your poppy, with a full list of locations below, along with timings of this week’s Remembrance Sunday service and parade. 

A Southport Royal British Legion spokesperson said: “It’s Poppy Appeal season, and once again Southport is ready to show its incredible support for our Armed Forces community.

“Last year, you helped us raise just over £30,000, can we go even bigger this year?

“You’ll find Poppies and merchandise at these key locations across town:

Armed Forces Community Hub, Wesley Street – our HQ and the best place for the full range of Poppy merchandise.

Southport Centre: Sainsbury’s (Lord St), Tesco (Albert Rd), Asda (Central 12), Southport Railway Station, M&S (Chapel St), Christ Church (Lord St), Silcock’s Funland & Pier Restaurant, The Coaster (Lord St), Beauty HQ (Wesley St), Cleveland Café (Lord St).

Churchtown: Co-op (Fylde Rd), Spar (Cambridge Rd) Morrisons (Queens Rd, Hesketh Park), Churchtown Carpets.

Birkdale: Tesco Express (Liverpool Rd), Methodist Church (Liverpool Rd).

Ainsdale: Co-op (Station Rd).

Kew: Spar (Ovington Rd).

Banks: Co-op (Hoole Lane).

“Every school in Southport will also have a supply of our School Boxes and Poppies. Keep an eye on your school newsletter or messaging systems for when to bring in your donation.

“Plus, look out for our gazebo by the Memorial on Lord Street and the gazebo outside Silcock’s Family Pier Restaurant on the Promenade this weekend, along with street collections led by our amazing cadets and veterans. We will also have stands in our local supermarkets …… come and say hello.

“Pay your way – cash, card, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted at most locations.

“Let’s make 2025 a record year for Southport! Every poppy counts.

“Lest We Forget.”

This year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service in Southport will take place this Sunday (9th November 2025), all welcome. This event marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War.

A Southport Royal British Legion spokesperson said: “All Veterans and serving personnel are welcome to join us for our annual service of Remembrance.

“Anyone wishing to march in this year’s parade is requested to meet at the Armed Forces Community Hub on Wesley Street in Southport town centre, which will be open from 9.30am.

The Parade will march off from Wesley Street at 10.20am.

“Any less able participants who wish to take part in the parade, can meet at the junction of Chapel Street and London St at 10.40am to join with the last part of the march.

“All Army and RAF Cadets will also march with their contingents from Wesley Street. Sea Cadets will join the parade at the end of Chapel Street. This is a change from previous years, in line with guidance from Merseyside Police.

“If you are joining us for Remembrance but not taking part in the parade, you are warmly welcomed to gather around the memorial in time for the service to start shortly after 10.45am.”

Southport Branch Royal British Legion will also host its Annual Remembrance Dinner later this month. 

This black tie event will take place at the Masonic Hall, on Duke Street, Southport, on Saturday 15th November 2025. 

This black-tie, traditional military mess dinner is held shortly after Remembrance Sunday, offering a solemn and heartfelt tribute to those who have served.
