‘We wanted to do our bit to give something back’
Wendy Powell is one of the amazing supporters taking part in this year’s Santa Sprint, as her stepdaughter Sarah, her mum, and her close friend all received the wonderful compassionate care provided by Queenscourt Hospice.
Wendy shared what Queenscourt means to her, and why she and her family are taking part in Santa Sprint this Sunday.
She said: “I am really looking forward to doing the Santa Sprint this year.
“Not that I have ever sprinted – I have jogged a little bit!
“But mainly walked and had a good chat along the way.”
Wendy has been taking part in the event for the past 12 years, and always looks forward to it.
She said: “Me and my family have been doing the Santa Sprint since it started, way back in 2009.
“Having seen first hand the incredible, amazing work they do at the hospice, caring for people at the end of life and supporting their families too.
“We just wanted to do our bit to give something back.”
Queenscourt provides vital care
Queenscourt Hospice gives vital care and support to patients from Southport, Formby and West Lancashire completely free of charge. It can’t add days to lives but with donations from fundraising events such as the Santa Sprint, it can add life to days.
A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said: “This year’s event has kindly been sponsored by Silcock’s and by Hickory’s Smokehouse. This is our 12th year so please help us celebrate!
“We would love you to get in the Christmas spirit and join in this fun event for all the family, even the dog can participate!
“Every participant will receive a Santa suit to wear as they sprint, jog or amble their way along the route which starts at Southport Pier, and goes around the Marine Lake, all participants will also receive a medal and a complimentary hot drink.”
Silcock’s provides free hot tea or coffee
Silcock’s has revealed its continuing support for the Queenscourt Hospice Santa Sprint in Southport.
The Southport-based firm has sponsored the event over several years.
Silcock’s is providing runners with a free hot tea or coffee, with bacon or sausage barns on sale for only £1 each.
Silcock’s Operations Manager Serena Silcock-Prince said: “We have sponsored the Queenscourt Hospice Santa Sprint for over eight years now. This year a couple of other sponsors have joined us.
“As well as us donating £1,000 to Queenscourt, we also provide a free hot drink tea or coffee to all runners and also a bacon or sausage barm for only £1.”
Free coffee and cake at The Old Bank
The Old Bank in Southport is saying thank you to everyone running in this year’s Queenscourt Hospice Santa Sprint – by offering them a free post-run coffee and a slice of cake.
The stylish new venue officially opened on Lord Street in the town centre last month, after an extensive renovation.
The Old Bank Social Media and Events Manager Amber Sardinha said: “This year we will be supporting the Queenscourt Hospice Santa Sprint by offering the amazing Santas our venue for a complimentary post-run coffee and slice of cake for after the event.
“We figured as it is such a great cause and so local to our venue we would love to give something back to the people working hard to raise funds for the charity.
“As the event finishes around lunchtime it’s the perfect excuse for people to recharge their batteries with some much-needed and well-deserved coffee and cake – which is absolutely delicious to say the least!
“This event is even closer to home for us at The Old Bank because one of our Supervisors, Catherine, is participating with her six year old daughter!
“We would love to spread the word to all of the other Santas and people involved that we are doing this, so we would greatly appreciate people’s help in doing so.”
People of all ages are being invited to sign for the 2021 Santa Sprint on Sunday, 12th December, in either the 3k or 5k category.
Closing date for online entry is midday on Thursday, 9th December.
