Queenscourt Hospice Ward Sister Kristina Ackers

The team at Queenscourt Hospice are asking people to go To the Moon and Back in support of Queenscourt this September.

Their mission (should they choose to accept it..) is for people of all ages to get involved with their latest fundraising initiative that is centred around the Hospice’s very own Team Buzz, which is made up of Queenscourt staff.

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in all of Queenscourt’s usual fundraising events, including its flagship Star Trekk night walk, being cancelled this year which has led to a substantial loss in funding.

With fundraising more important now than ever to help Keep Queenscourt in Service, Queenscourt’s clinical staff are launching their virtual keep active campaign and are hoping many of the Hospice’s supporters will get involved and join them as they go To the Moon and Back.

This fun initiative was inspired by Queenscourt Ward Sister Kristina Ackers, who, along with other members of #teamqueenscourt, wanted to find a way that they could offer fundraising support to the Hospice in these challenging times.

Kristina said: “If we could, we would walk to the moon and back for our patients and their families every single day.” With that thought, the fundraising idea was born

Team Buzz have pledged to walk a minimum of 2,000 miles during September. The distance represents the number of families Queenscourt supports in just one year.

As they prepare to start their challenge, Team Buzz is asking people to get involved and help launch the initiative by also pledging to be active every day during the month of September, with a target of aiming to complete one of the following each day of that month:

  •       Walk 10,000 steps OR
  •       Exercise for one hour, which can include any sport, exercise, gardening, cleaning etc
  •       Actively raise sponsorship (suggested minimum of £30)

You may want to enter as an individual or as part of a team with family and friends. Entry costs £12.50 per person or £40 for a family of two adults and two children and will include a bright yellow T-Shirt for you to decorate and wear as you are embarking on your chosen activity.

In addition to paying the entry fee, Queenscourt would also love to see everyone taking part seeking sponsorship from friends and family to boost their individual fundraising totals.

Dianne Gillespie, Event Fundraiser at Queenscourt said: “We are aware that many of our supporters will take part in memory of a loved one or because Queenscourt Hospice has supported them personally, or simply because they want to get fit and support their local hospice at the same time.

“Whatever the motivation, we are enormously grateful to everyone who gives up their time to get active for our cause. We hope that lots of you will join us on this very special mission – to help Keep Queenscourt in Service”
