A Preston-based Vintage Car Club is bringing 15 historic vehicles – and some young motoring enthusiasts – to the brand new Southport Classic and Speed this October.

Preston and District Vintage Car Club, one of the most active and progressive in the country, is looking forward to featuring at the event at Victoria Park on Sunday, 10th October. Some of its vehicles date back nearly a century, to the 1920s and 1930s.

Around 250 classic cars covering three centuries of motoring have already signed up to take part at Southport Classic and Speed

What makes the Preston and District Vintage Car Club’s display of 15 cars so different is that the club is committed to encouraging the younger generation to participate in and appreciate the pleasure that can be derived from vintage motoring.

Club member Tom Taylor said: “It’s vital that the spirit of real motoring is kept alive and we have to encourage youngsters to become involved.

“Our club has over 200 members and several are teenagers and very capable drivers of vintage cars in competition. Miss Dorothy Levitt was just 21 years young when she won her class driving a Gladiator in the 1903 Speed Trials on the promenade in Southport.

“We invite anyone who would like to learn more to come to our stand and talk to us. Maybe we can find another Dorothy Levitt!”
