Legendary pop star Marc Almond OBE has posted a series of photos on his return home to Southport tonight.

The singer, who has sold over 20million singles worldwide with hits including ‘Tainted Love’ and ‘Something’s Gotten Hold Of My Heart’, wrote to his 40,000 Followers: “How can you not love Southport?”

He also revealed the location of his favourite tea room – and said he was glad to see it still going strong.

Marc Almond then enjoyed a visit to Silcock’s Funland on the Promenade, posting a vibrant video of the lights on the front.

He posted: “You can see the bright lights of Funland which is often an alternative name for Southport.

“Dazzled by the neons of Southport I’m drawn like a moth to a flame to put all my loose change into the slot machines in the dream that I can make a fortune.”

His next visit was to the brilliant Westminster Tea Rooms on Lord Street.

“Still serving hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows and a flake.

“Oh I shouldn’t … should I? … oh all right then you’ve persuaded me.”

“We are big fans of his music here and love how he’s not forgotten his roots!

“He’s welcome to fish and chips on us any time!”
