Churchtown and Crossens’ Lib Dem councillors wish to thank local police for their recent stepping up of patrols, particularly in Botanic Gardens and at Crossens Recreation Ground.

This follows recent reports of serious criminal behaviour around these areas and the councillors vowing that they would work with police and others to stamp out anti-social behaviour.

In a social media update, Sefton Police said,

“Following complaints of anti-social behaviour in Botanic Gardens at night, Neighbourhood Police Officers and PCSO’s have been doing sweeps of the park by torchlight.
“A number of young men have been found in Botanic Gardens in possession of cannabis, while sweeps of Crossens Recreation Ground have led to seizures of both class A and class B drugs.

“Where possible, these have been dealt with by means of Community Resolution, where the offender is interviewed at a later date and agrees to a programme of action. Where class A drugs were found, this had led to arrests.

“Day or night, we will patrol the areas where our communities want us to be.”
Councillors John Dodd, Lauren Keith and Gareth Lloyd-Johnson reiterate their complete support for the police in tackling anti-social behaviour across the community and will continue to work with police and Sefton Council to make sure that any further instances are dealt with swiftly.
Councillor Lauren Keith said, “It’s pleasing to see pro-active policing like this, out in the community and stepping in before more serious incidents occur. Intervention at this stage is important in stopping worse happening.
Cllr. John Dodd said, “Hopefully this will give reassurance to residents. Many were left feeling upset and scared about the reports of anti-social behaviour and now they can see something being done about it. We will keep working with everyone that we need to and we look forward to being able to report more positive news in the future.”

Cllr. Gareth Lloyd-Johnson added, “We’ve always had a very simple approach to anti-social behaviour in the community – it isn’t acceptable and it will be stopped. We back the police completely in the work that they are doing and will offer any support that we can to help them continue patrols like this. There are no excuses for the anti-social behaviour we have seen recently and it will not be tolerated.”
