Southport Business Improvement District is inviting people to join in the forthcoming Independents’ Day UK 2021 and get behind local businesses.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday 3rd July and Sunday 4th July and supports independent retailers across the UK.

Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “Southport has so many superb independent businesses, and we are pleased to see them back open once again after the easing of lockdown restrictions.

“This has been such a tough few months for local firms and they need your backing now more than ever.

“Whether you are looking to enjoy shopping, going for a meal out, sharing a night out with friends or experiencing some of our great attractions, Independents’ Day UK 2021 is a perfect opportunity for taking part.

“Southport BID has shown our commitment through our dedicated Southport Independents website and social media pages, where you can find great stories, offers and events happening locally.”

Independents’ Day UK in partnership with Local Rewards is a campaign that exists to support and promote independent retail businesses across the UK all year round, but with an annual focus on July 3rd and July 4th:

Independents account for around 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country.

Independent businesses offer superb choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a more personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies. And with retail spending under pressure, never have they needed our support more.

Southport BID Business Engagement Manager Luke Randles said: “Independent businesses have never been more vital to our town centres, and there has never been a more important time to support them.

“Southport is lucky to have an eclectic mix of independents, all with unique individual offerings, and run by passionate owners and staff. As Southport residents, we should do anything we can to champion these businesses.

“Every pound spent, every post shared, and every good word spread goes a long way to supporting our businesses and our town. Independents Day UK is a fantastic opportunity to shout about Southport’s amazing independents, but we encourage everyone to support these businesses all year round.

“The majority of businesses on the Southport Gift Card program are independents, and we’re pleased to be able to offer another way of supporting multiple venues across the town.”

Local people are also invited to take part in Independents’ Day by sharing pictures of your favourite local businesses and promoting what they do. Please post through social media and connect with others using the hashtag #ukindieday and get the word out this year.
