People in Southport are being asked to try and avoid speculation and ensure that justice can be secured after the tragic killings of three young girls in Southport in July.

Axel Rudakubana, 18, of Banks near Southport, is due to appear in court this Wednesday (30th October 2024).

Rudakubana will face three charges of murder, 10 charges of attempted murder and one charge of possession of a knife – all relating to the incident at Hart Street, Southport on 29 July 2024.
He will also face charges of producing a biological toxin, namely ricin, and possessing an Al-Qaeda Training Manual.

Rudakubana will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday (30th October 2024).

Southport MP Patrick Hurley said: “Today’s update from Merseyside Police that Axel Rudakubana will be charged with two further separate offences to those relating to the tragic Hart Street attack in July is a further shock to our recovering community.

“I deeply support Merseyside Police’s commitment to achieving justice for the families of all those affected by the attack and their transparency regarding what they can share with our community.

“I want to further highlight what the Chief Constable has shared regarding the production of a biological toxin, ricin: There was a low to very low risk to the public from the production of ricin, and no ricin was present at Hart Street.

“At this time we must avoid speculation and make sure we do not prejudice the trial and ensure the integrity of this police case. The investigation is still ongoing, and the primary focus must be getting justice for the families of Bebe, Alice and Elsie Dot and the ten victims who were injured at the Hart Space in Southport on that Monday, in July, and the other 16 people who were present.

“We must allow the criminal justice system the time and capacity to do its work unhindered by prejudicial comments. I’m sure I speak for the people in Southport  when I say that the best way for those who committed this crime to face the full force of the law is for the justice system to prevail.

“Please refrain from engaging in rumours and speculation online to help our community recover and support the police investigation.

“If you are affected by the announcement or by the events of the attack, please get in touch with my office and I will try our best to signpost you to where you can receive help and support. You can email me at [email protected]

“Finally, I want to thank the police and all our emergency services again for their response to the attack and their selfless bravery in supporting the victims and their families.”
