Ormskirk Hospital

Maternity services at Ormskirk Hospital have been rated ‘Good’ after a recent inspection says the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Representatives of the CQC visited Ormskirk Hospital in December 2023 as part of their national maternity services inspection to provide an up-to-date view of the quality of maternity care across the country.

The CQC has informed the Trust that the services received a ‘Good’ rating with special mention being made of its effective leadership team who “managed the priorities and issues the service faced, were visible and approachable and supported staff to develop their skills.’’

The CQC found two areas of “outstanding’’ practice with specific praise for the unit’s work with the Maternity Neonatal Voices Partnership group which heard the views of 100 families and helped provide valuable feedback on the service. It was also praised for its focus on keeping noise at an appropriate level for the benefit of mothers and their newborn babies.

Staff were praised by inspectors for their continued commitment to improving services and their desire to put patients first with the report stating: “Staff were focused on the needs of women receiving care and promoted a culture of dignity and respect that placed people’s care at the heart of the service.’’

Staff also worked constantly to reduce health inequalities with a continuity of carer team who supported women in deprived areas and had an open culture where women and partners could raise concerns and knew they would be listened to.

Responding to the news, Ann Marr OBE, Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted our maternity services at Ormskirk Hospital have been rated as ‘Good’ and are proud to see there has been progress made following this latest CQC inspection.

“It was pleasing to hear inspectors recognise the positive culture of our Trust and I would like to thank all our staff for their continued hard work and commitment.

“We welcome the feedback in the CQC report and will continue to strive to make further improvements.’’
