The opening date has been revealed for the new B&M store on Chapel Street in Southport!

The new shop will welcome its first customers on Thursday 3rd December 2026, in the run-up to Christmas.

Work is currently taking place to revamp the building, which is opposite the entrance to Southport Train Station.

New banners have appeared outside the site today announcing the date, and saying ‘The countdown is on!’

The new B&M store is being created inside the former New Look clothing shop, which closed its doors on Friday, 7th August 2026, as the company continued to close high street sites and focus more on online sales.

B&M was formed in 1978 and is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK.

From its first store in Blackpool, Lancashire, B&M has grown to over 700+ stores and employs over 35,000+ staff. B&M believes in selling ‘top branded products at sensational prices’.

The firm attracts over 4 million customers through our doors a week.

B&M has stores throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

They include existing stores at 91 Lord Street in Southport and at Central 12 retail park in Southport.

It comes at a busy time for Chapel Street, which has seen a number of new ventures opening in recent months.

Work has taken place this year to give a fresh new look to the Southport Train Station Approach with new lighting, new ceiling and new flooring.

Coffee House opened in June, while Greggs also opened its first Southport store in June, next door to where the new B&M is going to be.

Building work is continuing to redevelop the former BHS department store site, while Phone Scan opened in the former Claire’s Accessories site earlier this month.
