One of the largest veterinary firms in Europe is looking to open a new vets practice in Southport.
CVS Group, which owns and operates over 500 veterinary surgeries throughout the UK, Holland and the Republic of Ireland, has submitted a planning application to open a new facility at Unit 2, Kew Retail Park. The unit was previously occupied by The Carphone Warehouse.
The 278 sq m centre would typically operate seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, between 8.30am and 7pm, and would also provide 24 hour emergency access with vets on call.
Once fully operational, the veterinary practice would support “a number of full and part time jobs, as well as requiring various local labour inputs during the fit-out works and construction process”.
The proposed practice would offer facilities including: 4 consultation rooms; 1 pharmacy; a dog waiting area; a cat waiting area; a feline / exotic ward; a dog ward; a surgical prep room; 1 isolation room; a laboratory room; a freezer room; a theatre room; a x-ray room; a dental surgery room; a internal plant / server; a reception / waiting room; a staff canteen; 1 admin area; a laundry room; 1 staff changing room; 2 staff toilets; and 1 customer toilet.
No specific allocated car parking is provided as part of the application proposals, but customers and other visitors will have access to the extensive area of car parking that is located within the wider retail park.
The planning application has been submitted by planning consultants Turley, which said: “The proposals relate to a type and form of development appropriate to the site’s locality and as such accords with relevant policies within the Local Pan.
“The submission demonstrates that the development would deliver economic and social benefits, in that additional veterinary facilities will be available in the local area.”
Planning permission for Kew Retail Park itself was originally submitted to Sefton Council in September 1999, and saw space for six retail units replace a car wash facility previously on the site.
