Numerous potential buyers have registered their interest in taking over Bliss Hotel in Southport.

The sale would be a going concern, with the four star hotel currently still operational.

Waterfront Hotels (Southport) Limited and Waterfront Southport Properties Limited

were placed in administration on 28th September 2022 with Paul Davies and Sandra Mundy, partners of James Cowper Kreston, appointed joint administrators.

A statement issued by Trevor Phillips, Phillips Levene Partnership on behalf of Paul Davies and Sandra Mundy said: “Since their appointment they have been seeking buyers for the business as a going concern and have received a number of expressions of interest that they are pursuing.

“Further updates will be issued in due course.”

The hotel is in a prime site, next to the site of the proposed £73 million Marine Lake Events Centre and the light show on the Marine Lake. Construction is due to begin next year.

Last year the previous owners of Bliss Hotel unveiled their ambitious vision for the former Genting Casino site adjacent to Bliss Hotel, which included two multi-storey buildings for a new hotel / shared office space / leisure / gym / residential / retail in addition to new winter gardens.

The administrators say it’s business as usual for Bliss Hotel, with a number of events and functions due to take place and bookings already being made for people looking forward to attending the Eurovision contest in Liverpool in May next year.

In a previous statement, Paul Davies and Sandra Mundy said: “We are continuing to trade the business as usual whilst we look for a buyer for the business as a going concern.

“At this time we have no plans to make any changes to the team structure and we will be honouring all function bookings.”

Bliss Hotel in Southport was put up for sale in September.

Owners Waterfront Southport Properties Ltd. had invested millions of pounds in improving the former Ramada Plaza Hotel, creating two penthouse suites, renovating rooms, upgrading the kitchen, terrace and dining area, and introducing the Bliss Space events space overlooking the Marine Lake.

Sefton Council submitted a full planning application for the Marine Lake Events Centre scheme earlier this year, with a forecast that it will attract 515,000 additional visitors to the area and will generate nearly 60,000 overnight stays from conferences and events.

Waterfront Southport Properties Ltd has instructed the operational real estate team at CBRE in Manchester to market Bliss Hotel.

The hotel boasts 131 bedrooms and penthouses, a lounge bar, restaurant, roof garden, gym, conferencing and events space, as well as secure underground car parking for 120 cars.

The hotel underwent a £15m refurbishment programme in 2019.

Shaun Skidmore, senior director at CBRE Manchester, said:

“We are delighted to work with Waterfront Southport Properties to market the recently upscaled luxury boutique hotel, which is in a prime position to the progressing events centre and exciting waterfront development.

“The area is primed to attract a host of economic benefits thanks to this highly significant, multi-million pound regeneration scheme.”

The asking price for the hotel has not been disclosed.
