Next has announced plans to close its store on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

The site, next to Beales department store, has two storeys selling men’s, women’s and children’s clothing.

It will close its doors for the last time at 5.30pm on Saturday, 28th January 2023.

Posters in the window of the shop invite customers to instead shop at the current Next store at Central 12 retail park on Derby Road in Southport, saying “we look forward to seeing you in our nearest store”.

It comes at a time of major investment on Lord Street.

Work is currently taking place to transform the former Garrick Theatre / Mecca Bingo building at the southern end of Lord Street.

At the other end, in the ‘Northern Quarter’, Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group has already invested over £4 million in converting the former Grand Casino building on Lord Street into The Grand Brasserie and Chloe’s Bar on the ground floor, with the 250-seater Princess Grace function room and wedding suite on the first floor.

The new Harry’s Bar is due to open on the rooftop this year.

In the centre of Lord Street, a new indoor climbing centre and the new Occulo Lounge are due to open this year.
