Would you like to help to improve our local community?

Volunteer Centre Sefton is delighted to be working with Stand Up for Southport to provide a monthly update on volunteering across the Southport and Formby area.

Here are some of the places seeking support this July with details about how you can apply.

Volunteering is a rewarding way of giving back to your community and it can offer you many benefits. It can help you to meet new people, boost your self-confidence, help you feel less isolated and it can improve your CV.

At Volunteer Centre Sefton, there are hundreds of volunteer roles across the borough. Here is a handful of our latest volunteer roles in Southport and Formby.

Take a look below at the latest volunteer roles in Southport and Formby.

Phoenix Community and Youth project – Volunteering with young people and people with disabilities

A disability personal education/social project, Phoenix Community and Youth Project is looking for volunteers to help run their sessions on a Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening which include activities such as cooking, crafts and games. There are several opportunities and no experience is needed! They are also looking for a volunteer to help with the admin for the project.

Galloway’s – Wellbeing walk leader

Galloway’s Society for the Blind is looking for wellbeing walk volunteers to support walks in the Southport area. The walks are a chance for people with a visual impairment to be aided in taking a stroll and getting some fresh air with a friendly group. They will be staff-led with volunteers offering support and company for the outing.

NYAS – Volunteer befriender for a child in care

Can you make a difference to the life of a young person? NYAS are looking for motivated, child-focused volunteers to befriend young people who would benefit from a trusted adult friend outside of the system. You don’t need to have any special qualifications, all you need is patience, flexibility and determination to make a difference. You will also need a non-judgmental attitude and you will need to have a DBS, which the charity will do for you.

NYAS is a national children’s rights charity working in partnership with Sefton Children’s Services to recruit, train and support adult volunteers to be Independent Visitors for children and young people who are looked after by their local authority.

The Holy Trinity Youth Club – Youth leaders & Chair

Youth leaders

The Holy Trinity Youth Club needs volunteers to help run their youth club which takes place on alternative Fridays, during term time from 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm. This is a great opportunity to gain experience with working with young people and develop skills. Full training is available, DBS and Safeguarding Training will be provided.

Chair

A great opportunity has arisen for someone with organisation and managerial skills to apply for the post of Chair at Holy Trinity Youth Club, as the current Chair is retiring. This will involve managing and running the club alongside a brilliant and effective team of volunteers. The club meets on a Friday every two weeks during term time.

Formby Library – Family history volunteer

Formby Library is keen to revive its Family History Helpdesk and is looking for a volunteer to assist their customers in exploring and researching their family trees. The volunteer would ideally need to have done some of their own family history research and they would also need experience using the Ancestry and Find My Past websites. Formby Library is looking to run the helpdesk once a month on a Tuesday morning, between 10 am and 12 noon, although this can be flexible if Tuesdays do not suit the volunteer.
