A state-of-the-art Endoscopy Unit has officially opened at Southport Hospital

A state‑of‑the‑art Endoscopy Unit has officially opened at Southport Hospital, marking a major investment in modern diagnostic facilities and a significant step forward for patient care.

The purpose‑built unit represents an investment of around £6 million and has been carefully designed to support high‑quality, efficient care in a calm, welcoming environment.

Opened this week, the new facility will support both inpatient and elective day‑case patients, helping to meet growing demand for endoscopy services and easing pressure on existing hospital facilities.

Designed with patients at its heart, the new Endoscopy Unit offers more space, improved privacy and a smoother experience from arrival through to recovery. Modern reception and waiting areas, upgraded treatment spaces, and dedicated recovery areas will all help ensure patients are cared for comfortably and with dignity throughout their visit.

The unit also provides a modern, supportive working environment for staff, with improved facilities that help them deliver excellent care now and into the future.

Rob Cooper, Chief Executive of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said:
“For patients, having an endoscopy can be an anxious time, so the environment in which they’re cared for really matters. This new Endoscopy Unit has been designed to improve comfort, privacy and the overall experience for our patients at Southport Hospital.

“It’s a really positive step forward and an important investment in the services people rely on every day.”

The opening of the new Endoscopy Unit forms part of a wider programme of investment across Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, with plans being developed over the coming year to support future improvements to endoscopy services at Ormskirk Hospital, helping to improve access to diagnostics for local patients.
