A new care home is opening on the site of the former Sandpipers Centre in Southport this summer.
Sandpipers Care Centre, which describes itself as “a family friendly care home that provides the highest quality of care”, will open its doors on Fairway in Southport, on the banks of the Marine Lake, on Monday 18th August 2025.
The facility is owned by Newbloom Healthcare, which combines “the personal service you would expect to find in an established family-run care home along with the professionalism and resources of a large group”.
Newbloom Healthcare already operates two nursing and residential dementia care homes in London, two in Wirral, two in Leicestershire, one in Essex and one on the Promenade in Southport.
Sandpipers Care Centre will replace the former Sandpipers Centre, which provided breaks for disabled people and their carers for nearly 40 years.
It was closed by owners Revitalise on 25th November 2024.
The retreat, which was opened by the then Prince Charles in 1988, offered guests a wide range of activities and entertainment as well as a hydrotherapy pool with views across Marine Lake.
It was a devastating blow to disabled people, their families, and carers across the UK who previously travelled to Southport for much-needed respite holidays.
The two acre site was quickly placed on the market with Christie & Co with ‘offers invited’ and quickly sold.
Close to where the new £73 million Marine Lake Events Centre and the new Light Fantastic feature in the Marine Lake are currently being built, it is in a prime location.
In their sales brief Christie & Co highlighted its “beautiful waterside location with panoramic views overlooking Marine Lake and within close proximity of the beach and promenade”.
Planning consent was granted in 2022 by Sefton Council to increase the capacity of Sandpipers to 50 bedrooms.
