The former Poundland store at Central 12

Cancer Research UK will open its newest charity shop at M Park Central 12 Retail Park.

The charity already has a shop on Lord Street and is now set to take over the unit previously occupied by Poundland.

Although Poundland has only recently closed, work is already under way to strip out and re-fit the shop.

According to plans lodged with Sefton Council, the replacement occupier will be Cancer Research UK. The charity plans to install new signs at the front and rear of the building.

Cancer Research is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, influence and information. It supports research into all aspects of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses and has helped to save millions of lives.

Such shops are a vital part of its fundraising and in the year ending 2023, it generated £127m from trading activities such as these. That amounts to around 15% of its overall income.

The signage application will be determined by Sefton Council.

The new Cancer Research outlet could soon be joined by a brand new 24 hour gym at M Park Central 12 retail park, creating 30 new jobs.

The 534 sq m facility would open in the former Poundworld shop at Unit 6 in the park, adjacent to Next.

Earlier this month, Central 12 announced a new initiative of two hours free parking for customers, having taken over the operation of the car park from Sefton Council.

Work is currently underway to create a new McDonald’s outlet at Central 12, which is due to open this summer.

A planning application for the new 24/7 gym has been submitted by London and Cambridge Properties Limited to Sefton Council.

It does not state who the gym operator will be.
