Shoppers can now spend the brand new Southport Gift Card at Morrisons.
The supermarket, on Lord Street, is the latest in more than 70 local businesses to sign up to the scheme which promotes shopping locally.
Southport Gift Card makes a great present or Christmas present for friends, family, colleagues and employees with Morrisons joining a host of other shops, restaurants, hotels and attractions where the card is now accepted.
The new card was launched by Southport BID earlier this year as a way of allowing people to support their favourite local businesses.
Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “It is great to have Morrisons supermarket in Southport on board with this scheme.
“These are difficult times for families. Buying a Southport Gift Card for friends, members of your family or colleagues who may be struggling is one way of helping them by enabling them to go into Morrisons and do their weekly food shop.
“If they wanted to, people could also donate Southport Gift Cards to local charities for them to distribute this Christmas.
“With so many local businesses, and types of outlets in Southport now accepting Southport Gift Cards, people have tremendous choice about where they will be able to spend it.”
Southport Morrisons Community Champion Anna Ingram said: “We are delighted to be able to join the many national and local retailers in giving our customers another outlet to be able to use their card.”
So far over 70 local retailers, restaurants, cafes, bars and leisure venues have signed up to accept the brand-new Southport Gift Card, with more added each week. The card is ready to be spent in high street favourites such as M&S, The Entertainer, Flannels, GAME and Sports Direct plus dozens of popular independent favourites such as Volare, Reputation Menswear, Tap & Bottles and The Cheshire Lines.
Southport BID has launched the initiative in order to encourage more people to spend money locally and help businesses recover from the coronavirus lockdown.
Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said: “This is a fantastic way to keep spend right at the heart of the local economy. Our local businesses keep the town centre vibrant and a great place to live, work and shop and this another excellent way to support them.
“I am absolutely delighted that so many retailers, venues, cafes, restaurants and other service businesses have signed up and see the value of the Southport Gift Card.”
The new scheme works exactly like any other shop gift card scheme. The purchaser can pre-load from £10 up to £500 on a card that they give as a present to colleagues, friends or family members. The card can then be spent just like any other debit card and they can purchase from any venue accepting it and spread their spend across as many venues as they wish.
Unlike other schemes, there is no admin fee involved for businesses, which receive 100% of the money spent in their store.
Southport BID has partnered with Miconex to deliver the pre-payment Southport Gift Card gift card with the aim to have it accepted in over 150 stores, hospitality venues or attractions. Similar town gift cards across the country have seen tens of thousands of pounds kept in the local economy a year.
