Morrisons supermarket in Southport has unveiled a very special Christmas tree this year – which allows people to support Southport Soup Kitchen.

Shoppers visiting the store, at Winter Gardens on Lord Street in Southport town centre, can choose a bauble from the tree which they can then use to donate either £1, £2 or £5 to people in need of help during the festive season.

Southport Morrisons Community Champion Anna Ingram said: “Christmas is on its way!

“To support our local community this year, we have chosen a ‘different’ Christmas tree.

“Our community tree contains baubles which can be scanned at all checkouts. These are valued at £1, £2 and £5.

“At Christmas we will donate a gift voucher to Southport Soup Kitchen for the full amount so they can purchase items they need.

“The tree is fully recyclable.

“The tokens were launched in November and are available until Christmas Eve.

“These will be converted into a gift voucher which Southport Soup Kitchen can use to purchase items within our store in the new year.

“Since lockdown we have donated over £12million pounds of stock to support our local foodbanks / and other groups. Our food pick-up packs will remain available during this time also.

“We also are supporting Southport Salvation Army again with their Toy Appeal. There is a donation point opposite Timpsons in our store.”
