The Commercial Director for Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group is counting the days until he spends some time ‘inside’ piling up the numbers to support Queenscourt Hospice.

Geoff Wareham is among a dozen local people who have signed up to take part in the annual Jail and Bail fundraiser in Southport.

It will see them all ‘locked up’ for their ‘crimes’ at the former Southport Magistrates’ Court (now Access Point) before being set a series of challenges as they aim to raise the £999 in ‘bail’ money needed to secure their ‘release’.

You can donate to Geoff Wareham’s Jail and Bail JustGiving page here.

Geoff said: “What Queenscourt Hospice does for people in the community is amazing.

“The quality of the palliative care they provide is superb.

“Andrew Mikhail and Rob Ashcroft from MHALG are very supportive of local charities and initiatives and we regular contribute to various charities, including ICU Steps and The Steve Prescott Foundation and we are delighted to support Queenscourt Hospice too – even if it does include seeing me being ‘locked up’ for the day!

“I saw all the pictures and coverage from last year’s event and recognised a few of the people taking part.

“Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group has always been heavily involved in the local community with initiatives such as the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards and Jail and Bail seemed like a fun one to get involved with.”

Geoff has been the Commercial Director at MHALG and has worked for the company for the past nine years. He is also a proud Board member of Southport BID and Chairman of Southport Pubwatch.

He studied at KGV Sixth Form College in Southport and has worked within the hospitality industry in Southport since he was 18.

His parents, Richard and Irene Wareham, ran landmark Southport pubs including The Portland and The Two Brewers (formerly The Tudor).

Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group operates a number of venues across the North West and several in Southport, including The Grand, The Bold, Lord Street Hotel, Southport Market Bar, Maverick’s, and Punch Tarmey’s.

Geoff said: “My colleagues have been really supportive since I told them I was signing up for Jail and Bail to raise funds for Queenscourt Hospice.

“I was looking forward to taking part – but then I became a little nervous when the Fundraising team at Queenscourt asked me, when I signed up, if I was scared of heights!

“I have no idea what they have planned for me and the other ‘inmates’ on the day. Itself.

“I can’t wait to take on the Jail and Bail challenge and hopefully raise some much needed funds for our local hospice.”

Every penny raised through Jail & Bail will go towards Queenscourt Hospice, which provides care and support for residents across West Lancashire, Southport and Formby, 365 days a year.

Queenscourt is staging this fundraiser in collaboration with Stand Up For Southport 10am-3pm on Friday, 7th June 2024 at Access Point, based inside the former Southport Magistrates’ Court building, on Albert Road in Southport.

Queenscourt provides access to specialist palliative care either at home (including care homes), hospital or in Queenscourt via the Inpatient Unit or as an outpatient. Queenscourt at Home supports patients, and those important to them, to be cared for in their own home, if that is their preference.
