Trevor Ford, local breakfast show presenter at Mighty Radio and mature student currently studying for a BA Honours in Drama at Edge Hill University, has taken a bold step into the world of writing, self-publishing his first book, The Death of the Author and the Rise of AI.

Inspired by a lecture on Roland Barthes’ theory of authorship and Alan Turing’s revolutionary ideas on artificial intelligence, Ford has delved into the intersection of creativity, meaning, and machine generated content. His thought provoking book challenges traditional notions of authorship, offering an exploration of how AI is reshaping the creative landscape.

Since joining the full-time Drama course at Edge Hill University in October 2025, Ford has quickly integrated the academic and practical aspects of his degree into his work, turning his reflections from a single lecture into a comprehensive analysis of authorship in the digital age. Ford says, “I just couldn’t get Barthes’ ideas out of my mind, and the more I thought about them, the more I wanted to explore the role of AI in shaping what it means to be a creator today.”

The book explores key themes such as machine intelligence, the loss of traditional authorship, and the new era of creativity, where both human and artificial intelligence collaborate to create content.

Ford, a seasoned actor, voice-over artist, and radio presenter with over 40 years in the entertainment industry, has used his storytelling expertise to make complex philosophical concepts accessible to a broad audience. The Death of the Author and the Rise of AI is now available in both paperback and digital formats.

Ford’s book comes at a time when the conversation around AI, creativity, and authorship has never been more relevant, making it a must-read for anyone interested in the future of technology, literature, and the arts.
