The search has begun to find the 2025 Sefton Young Sportsperson of The Year sponsored by Merseyrail – and we’d love to hear your nominations!
Last year we were bowled over by the entries we received across a wide range of sports from Southport, Bootle, Formby, Crosby, Maghull and across the borough for the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards.
Now we’d love you to tell us who you’d like to see celebrated in this year’s awards, which will take place at The Grand in Southport on 25th April 2025.
Please make your nominations at: prideofseftonawards.co.uk or email us at@ standupforsouthport@gmail.com
Merseyrail and the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards are inviting you to nominate anyone who you think has achieved highly this year in any sport played locally – whether it’s football, netball, rugby, cricket, swimming, squash, hockey, gymnastics, or anything else.
In a borough with so much sporting talent we would expect a deluge of entries. We would love you to tell us who stands out?
Sally Ralston BEM, Head of Community and Engagement at Merseyrail said:
“We are delighted to be supporting the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards 2025. For over twenty years Merseyrail has been at the very heart of the communities we serve, linking our young people with education, opportunities, and leisure activities.
“We are passionate about the role we play in helping young people to get to the match, sports practices or get togethers that help them reach their sporting potential. We were therefore thrilled to be sponsoring 2025’s Sefton Young Sportsperson of the Year.”
Last year we had three outstanding winners:

Louis Cheung–Turner
Louis travels all over both the UK and Europe representing the UK in table tennis.
He has competed in many competitions winning people well above his age.
Joshua Morris
Joshua Morris earned an outstanding win at the Kickboxing world championships in Canada 2023. Consistently going above and beyond with his wins he gives back his free time to help coach and nurture the younger children into the gym.
Jack Carney
Jack Carney started playing cricket at Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club. In 2023 he was awarded Player of the Year for Lancashire Under 18s.
Jack was subsequently selected for England Under 19s and was then selected as first choice Batsman / Wicket Keeper for the Under 19s World Cup 2024 in South Africa.
The 2025 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards is searching for someone truly special who has made a truly inspiring or outstanding contribution to life in Sefton in 13 different categories.
People and groups who go above and beyond to make Sefton a special place for all will be presented with their trophies and given thanks in the Princess Grace Suite at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport town centre on Friday, 25th April 2025.
The unmissable night in the Merseyside events calendar will be presented by actress and radio personality Claire Simmo, and supported by Media Partner In Demand Radio.
All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in beautiful surroundings while the awards are presented, with a night of entertainment planned.
The first ever Pride Of Sefton Awards are being organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport.
Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories.
