Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) has been awarded the prestigious Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) has been awarded the prestigious Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award.

The Award is the highest recognition possible for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to the Armed Forces community, and share the values defined in the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Trust’s Chief Executive, Rob Cooper, said:

“We are delighted to receive the Gold Award.

“It’s a testament to the tireless dedication of our team in creating a truly supportive environment for our valued Armed Forces community. Their service and sacrifice are invaluable, and we are committed to ensuring they have access to all the opportunities and resources they deserve.”

The Gold Award acknowledges MWL’s exceptional initiatives in areas such as:

  • Providing clear employment pathways and a newly established guaranteed interview scheme for veterans and service personnel to transition into successful careers within the Trust.
  • Partnering with Military Reserve units to support the recruitment of Reservists and Cadet Force Volunteers.
  • Championing the Armed Forces Covenant and actively supporting the Armed Forces community.

There are three levels to the awards: bronze, silver, and gold. Attaining gold status requires organisations to show a deep commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, ensuring their policies and practices reflect the core values of the Armed Forces community.

There was more good news for MWL as the Trust’s Veteran Aware status, which was received for the first time in 2024, was issued again after a one-year review.

Veteran Aware status shows an organisation’s commitment to making sure veterans and Armed Forces personnel, and their families, get the right support when they need it.
