Local Author Evening in Southport sets stage for six writers to share their stories

People will get the chance to meet six talented local authors at a Local Author Evening happening in Southport this summer. 

This special event takes place at Birkdale Library, The Station Master’s House, 2 Liverpool Road, Birkdale, Southport PR8 4AR between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 8th July 2026.

It is organised by the Waterstones bookshop in Southport. 

A spokesperson said: “Join us for a fascinating evening at Birkdale Community Library as we welcome six talented local authors for an informal and engaging literary event. 

“This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the writers behind the books, learn about their inspiration and creative processes, and discover a range of stories spanning mystery, memoir, and children’s literature.

“Throughout the evening, guests will have the chance to chat with each author, ask questions about their work, and hear first-hand about their journeys to publication. 

“Whether you’re an avid reader, an aspiring writer, or simply curious about local literary talent, this promises to be an enjoyable and inspiring event.”

Meet the authors:

S M Bretherton will be discussing Desiderium, a compelling novel that explores themes of longing, human connection, and the choices that shape our lives.

Emily Fairfax, author of Things Bad Begun, brings readers a gripping and atmospheric story that keeps them turning pages as secrets and consequences unfold.

John Keith will introduce The Shankly Conspiracy, a captivating thriller that combines intrigue, suspense, and a uniquely local flavour.

Nicola Robson joins us with Dizzy Izzy, a delightful and imaginative children’s book that has captured the hearts of young readers and families alike.

Richard Moore will share the remarkable story behind Never The Same Man: A Survivor’s Story. A powerful and deeply personal memoir of resilience, courage, and overcoming adversity.

James Parker, author of The Pier, completes our line-up with a compelling novel that draws readers into a richly crafted story full of atmosphere and memorable characters.

Books will be available to browse and purchase, and there will be opportunities for book signing and personal conversations with the authors throughout the evening.
