The new Little Korean Kitchen outlet is now open inside Southport Market, with a superb response from diners during opening weekend.

The original Korean Kitchen started life in Hillside where its popularity saw it open a thriving new restaurant on Lord Street.

Their growing success there means they have now opened a new venture inside Southport Market to complement their restaurant.

Dishes on the menu at Little Korean Kitchen include Korean Fried Chicken (‘the real KFC!’), Korean Corndogs, Korean Katsu Cups, Korean Cupbab, Chicken Salad Boxes and more.

Manager Eddie Weights said: “It has been really good since we opened! The response has been fantastic.

“During the busy period over the weekend we had queues! We were able to complete our orders quickly though, because what we offer at Southport Market is a more refined offering of the menu that we have at the restaurant, with dishes that we can prepare and cook faster.

“The dishes we offer are popular Korean street food, which people love so much since the Korean Kitchen first opened in Southport.

“Diners really enjoy the Korean Fried Chicken. Everything is cooked fresh, we only use boneless chicken breast, we make all the authentic Korean sauces ourselves. It tastes amazing.

“Korean corndogs have gone massive on TikTok! They are so popular. Young people especially love them.

“We cook pork sausage corndogs; mozzarella corndogs; and half and half.

“Corndogs are a really iconic South Korean street food. They’re a hot dog style sausage or mozzarella cheese coated in batter, rolled in Panko breadcrumbs, deep fried until crispy and golden, and topped with Ketchup, honey mustard and sugar.

“They sound really unusual – but when you taste them you see why they’re so popular!

“We might work on creating more variations of them in the future, it’s something we’ll look at.

“We’re excited to see what people think of our new menu at Southport Market and to get feedback on what they think of the food!

“The response has been really positive so far.

“If people want something more substantial to eat, then we do the boxes too, with the Korean Katsu Cups, and the Korean Cupbab.

“The Korean Kitchen has enjoyed a brilliant reputation since it opened.

“Having an outlet inside Southport Market means that people can come in and try the food here. If they like it, then maybe they can go and enjoy a meal at the restaurant, which has a more substantial menu and there are even more dishes that people can try.”

Southport Market has lots to offer with traders including: Hector’s Mexicana, 600 Degrees pizza, Pitamu, Cake Corner, Pizza 51 Express, Lenny’s, the Market Bar and the Extravaganza events space.

Outside the venue, a multi-million pound project is underway to transform the Market Quarter area, with the aim of attracting more visitors and more new businesses to open.

Eddie said: “The potential of Southport Market and the Market Quarter is massive!

“We’re looking forward to most of the fencing on Market Street coming down at the end of June and then the new-look street being opened up for people to enjoy sitting outside this summer.

“It’s going to be really exciting to see.

“Southport Market is a brilliant place to be. There are so many good quality outlets here and so much choice for people.

“You’ll see a big party of 10 people walk in, and they’ll all head off to enjoy food from different venues!

“There is a really nice atmosphere and some brilliant events that people can enjoy in the Extravaganza space.

“It’s working out really well and we’re really happy to be here.

“We’d love to see people come into Southport Market and try what we have to offer.

“We are looking for staff at the moment so if anyone is interested, please call in and say hello, or please email us at: koreankitchensouthport@gmail.com”

Southport town centre’s first Korean restaurant, the Korean Kitchen, opened at 509 Lord Street in Southport town centre in 2023, creating 10 new jobs.

The owner of the business is Taeyeop Kim, who earned an impressive reputation for running the successful Korean Kitchen in Hillside.

His venture on Lord Street offers diners “a unique dining experience” while preserving the heritage character of a Grade II Listed building.
